Sledding...in a Roasting Pan

{I can't say for certain if he really liked it...}

We stuffed our little pride-and-joy-marshmallow-bundle into a roasting pan and went sledding on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, because what better way is there to honor an inspirational life than to careen down a packed snow-hill with ones you love? Also on the activity list was playing peek-a-boo behind the jumps, king of the mountain on fallen snowpersons, and dog watching. Overall, I'm putting Sawyer's first sledding experience down as an overall 8-points off for grumpy faces coming down the hill, and face planting once or twice.

Family Time

My mom, sister, and nephew stayed a week after Sawyer's party. I couldn't have been happier.  It was rough at times trying to mediate between the boys as they learn how to play, but good food, fun outings, and late nights watching "Once Upon a Time" made it easy to forget the eye pokes and head smacking.

Weekend Mirths: Sawyer's 1st Brithday

{our "guess how old" game: monthly pictures displayed on wanted posters}

{the cake: a low-sugar banana cake and buttercream teepee}
 Pictures say a thousand words and I'm still pretty speechless from our celebration of surviving and thriving through that first year. I am so grateful to our wonderful family and friends for coming and being so generous with gifts and with their love and with their time, you all made the day so special.  It was heart-bursting for me to be around all the people who have ties to our little family and who have supported us and been with us on our journey in parenthood.
